Installing a Brake Controller on a 2011 Dodge Nitro with 7-Pole Trailer Connector

We have a 2011 Nitro 3.7 L engine with the hitch package and a 7 pole , connector, what will we need to purchase to make it work proper

Expert Reply:
There isn't a wiring harness to plug a brake controller directly into your 2011 Dodge Nitro so it will have to be hardwired in.
I recommend installation kit # 5506. On the brake controller the black wire is 12 volt power and connects to the positive battery terminal via the included circuit breaker. The white wire is ground and needs to go to the negative battery terminal. Red connects to the cold side of the brake switch to the wire that only has power when you step on the brake pedal and not with the head lights or turn signals on.
The blue wire will need to go from the brake controller, through the firewall, under the vehicle, avoiding areas that may pinch or burn the wire, and to the back of the 7-Way where it will need to attach to the 7 o'clock position. If there is already a wire there just remove it and attach the one you ran in its place.
