Would you take the bar off when your driving in towns ?

The only time you would really need to disconnect the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 would be when you are backing the trailer up and the trailer will end up jack-knifed pretty tightly.
If you were backing up basically totally straight you could leave it connected.
