Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a Camper Trailer with 7,770 Dry Total Weight

Question:

I installed my hitch today but my truck still sqats about 2 to 3 inches it looks a lot better think it maybe just the rear suspension cause the front only moved about 1 inch

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Tongue weight is usually between 10 and 15 percent of total trailer weight so you would be looking at a dry tongue weight of between 800 and 1,200 lbs. So realistically your loaded tongue weight would be more than that so a system like the part # RP66130 would most likely work as it has a tongue weight range of 800-1,500 lbs and features the only sway control system on the market designed to fit sway before it starts.

A weight distribution system will not prevent the suspension of a vehicle from sagging completely. What it is designed to do is transfer some of the tongue weight at the rear of the vehicle up to the front axles. Ideally you want the vehicle to sit as level as it did previous to having a trailer hitched up to it. If your vehicle is still sagging further in the back than in the front and you have a properly rated system you would need to apply more spring tension to the setup. Depending on the setup you have you can do that by adjusting the angle of the head or by reducing the amount of chain links used.
