Is Fulton XLT 2-Speed 3200-lb-Rated Trailer Winch # F142425 Suitable for Boat Weighing 6000-lbs

Question:

I have a 26 ft. Scout Abaco 262 that has a dry weight of about 4,800 lbs excluding two Yamaha 150 outboards. Will the Fulton XLT Manual Trailer Winch with 3,200 load capacity be enough capacity?

Expert Reply:

Yamaha's 150-horsepower outboard engines F150LA and F150XA both have a dry weight just under 500-lbs, so a pair of these on your 4800-lb Scout Abaco will bring your total boat weight up to about 6000-lbs by the time you add fuel tanks, oil, etc.

Winch capacities vary depending on the nature of how they will be used. Factors such as the type of bunks on your trailer (rollers versus carpeted bunks), the amount of incline, the length of the winch cable or strap all affect the actual working capacity of a winch. Boat-size-to-winch capacity is generally 2 to 1. Installing roller bunks like # DL21741 instantly increases that ratio to 3 to 1. Incline reduces capacity. Please refer to the linked article for more information about how winch performance is affected by these particular conditions.

This winch would likely have enough capacity for your boat even in the worst-case scenario but you can make things easier for you and the winch by installing roller bunks.
