Recommended 5-Way Connector For 2002 Chevrolet Silverado And Trailer With Surge Brakes
Question:
No connector on vehicle yet. Need to pull a trailer with surge brakes that has a 5-pin connector. I want to mount the vehicle connector for a finished look. If I'm wiring for surges brakes, is the wiring procedure the same? Does the reverse or backup wire activate or disengage the surge brakes? The video only shows how to wire for a 7 pin and I don't have electric brakes on the trailer. Assuming that 4 pin and 5 pin will function properly with this multi-connector. Yes, no? If no, any suggestions for a mounted solution?

To install a 5-way connector on your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, you will need part # C56515.
This plugs into the vehicle harness located under the vehicle behind the bumper. There will be a protective cap on the vehicle harness. Just remove the cap, plug the # C56515, and you will have a 5-way connector at the back of your Silverado. With the 5-way connector, when the vehicle is put in reverse, it will send a signal to disengage the hydraulic brake actuator on your surge coupler.
For a bracket for your vehicle, I recommend the No-Drill Bracket, part # 18140.
