Recommended Hitch and Cargo Carrier for 1998 Honda Civic
Question:
Hello, Im planning to go on a long roadtrip and ruled out pulling a trailer behind my car since research has made it clear FWD train is not built for pulling a trailer. Im looking into maximizing my little 4D 1998 Honda Civic DXs packing capacity by using a roof cargo bag, but my question is whether or not I could safe get a hitch mounted on my car and from there mount a cargo rack. Thank you for your help!

You can certainly install a hitch on your Civic. I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class I hitch, part # 24677. This is a quality, but also the most economical choice for your Civic.
For a cargo carrying tray, I'd recommend you go with the Curt 24x48, part # C18110. This carrier has an angled shank that will raise the floor of the carrier up over 3 inches above the top of the receiver opening, for additional ground clearance which is important when backing downhill out of driveways.
If you'll be carrying less bulky items on the rear mounted carrier, you might consider a cargo bag like part # e98990. The bag would do an excellent job of keeping road dust and schmutz off your cargo. The carrier isn't submersible, so the interior could get wet in a heavy downpour, which is why we recommend wrapping anything that can't get wet in plastic.
