Recommended Hitch Mount Bike Rack and Lock for a 2004 Volkswagen Passat

Hello I am shopping for an inexpensive hitch mounted 1.25 Class 1, 2 bike rack for my VW Passat Sedan 2004. I was considering the Pro Rack two bike hitch mount product but notice that it does not make your top 20 list. It will be mounted in the curtis 11054 hitch. Also, confirming a hitch lock and cable set that will be used to secure the units. I notice you recommend the Yakima products. is this correct? thanks for your reply.

The hitch mount 2 bike rack I recommend, and has a great price point, is the Curt # C18085. It's a very lightweight rack plus will have a weight capacity of 90 pounds. I would double-check your Owners Manual to figure the tongue weight capacity and ensure you don't exceed it.

In order to secure your bikes to the bike rack and lock your trailer hitch, I recommend the Lock # e98891 because it has a 10 foot long steel cable that will lock to your trailer hitch chain loops and bikes with one system.

Please keep in mind since you have a Curt trailer hitch, for all non trailer loads such as bike racks, you will need a stabilizing strap like # 18050 to provide extra support. Failure to do so will void the Curt warranty.

We do offer Yakima bike racks, but I didn't recommend one because of the cost preference you mentioned. Also, most Yakima hitch racks cannot be used with Class I hitches.
