Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes Not Activating that are Receiving Power
Question:
I put new brakes on trailer. I have power all the way to my brakes but not engaging. My brake controller is not showing that it is hooked to trailer but when you take a test light and put it on 5 oclock spot and hit brakes or flip the switch the brake controller acts fine showing it works

First thing I would check is the ground for the brake assemblies. It sounds like the power is making it back to the assemblies just fine, but if they weren't grounded properly your controller wouldn't be able to detect them.
I would check the grounds of the assemblies, making sure that they are connected to a clean metal surface. You can also try running a jumper wire from the assembly ground to the main ground of the trailer. This is actually the preferred method for grounding brake assemblies.
