Brake Controller Installation in a 2015 American Coach Revolution Freightliner Liberty Chassis

Question:

Looking at the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller for my 2015 American Coach Revolution. I will be towing a tandem axle trailer with electric brakes. Is this a good choice considering the listed application and do you have the proper pig-tails for installation? The coach has a Freightliner Liberty chassis that suppose to have a pre-wired plug for a controllerI just have to locate it. Thanks,

Your 2015 American Coach Revolution motor home, built on a Freightliner chassis, does have a brake controller port under the dash but we do not have a quick-connect plug-in harness to connect it to a brake controller like the excellent Prodigy P3, part # 90195.

You can still do a hard-wired install for your P3 by wiring the included pigtail harness to the wires leading to your under-dash port. It is a good idea to test those 4 wires, or confirm with your dealer what function each carries, before making any connections. A circuit tester like # PTW2993 will make it easier to confirm what signal each wire carries.

Typically (but not necessarily in your case) the 4 wires for a brake control port are color-assigned as follows: white = ground, black = 12V power for the controller, blue is output to the trailer and red is the brake light input signal that tells the P3 to generate a braking signal on the blue wire.

In this configuration the black wire should have a 12V signal at all times and the red wire should have a signal ONLY when you press the brake pedal. The white and blue wires should carry no signals. If you can confirm these functions on the wires for your under dash plug then you can wire them into the pigtail lead included with the P3. You'll just need to cut off the under dash plug to allow you to splice those wires to the controller's using butt connectors like # DW05745-5. If you prefer to not remove the connector for splicing you can instead use quick splice connectors # SWC501915-1. Butt connectors do make a more reliable connection.

Follow the wire function assignments noted above.
