How to Find the Brake Light Signal for a Brake Controller on a 2007 Chevy Uplander

Question:

I recently purchased from you everything required to install trailer lights and an electric brake controller on my 2007 Uplander. When I look for voltages on my brake sending unit the yellow wire carries varying voltages depending on how hard I press on the brake...somewhere between 2 and 6 or so volts. Is it ok to splice into this line or should I connect downstream of the BCM?

Thanks for your recent purchase!

The issue you are having is common on Chevy Uplanders because of the multiplex wiring system. Due to the low voltage at the stop light switch, you will want to tap the red wire from your brake controller # 5504 into the high mount stop light wire coming out of the BCM.

On your BCM (body control module) the wire that operates the high mount stop lamp is typically the white wire coming from pin location 30. Take a look at the help article I attached that explains how to install a brake controller on your Uplander. Because manufacturers have been known to switch wiring colors in the past, I strongly recommend testing the wires using a circuit tester like # PTW2993.
