Installing Electric Brake Controls on a Chevy Uplander, Pontiac SV6, Buick Terraza or Saturn Relay
Technical BulletinSUBJECT/Summary: 2005-2008 Chevrolet Uplanders, 2005-2007 Pontiac SV6s, 2005-2007 Buick Terrazas and 2005-2007 Saturn Relays use a multiplex wiring system.
PROBLEM: If you connect a brake control to the "cold side" of the brake light switch, it will shut down the brake light system.SOLUTION: The brake light switch sends an input to the Body Control Module (BCM), which activates the high mount stop lamp. The wire that operates the high mount stop lamp can be used to activate the brake control. Connecting to this wire will not have any effect on the BCM according to GM.
The signal for the red wire can be obtained at the BCM. The BCM is located just under the front of the dash on the left side, just above your left knee as you are seated in the driver's seat.
On the very bottom of the BCM you will find a 52 pin connector. The label on the bottom can identify the BCM. On this label will be the acronym "VCBM" , and the 52 pin connector will have a green locking clip. In the center of this 52 pin connector you will find a white wire. This wire is the high mount brake light wire.
The white wire is in pin location 30. This wire will have 2.5 volts with the ignition in the run position, even though the brake pedal is not applied, and will go to 12 volts when applying the brake pedal.
From my research your 2007 Chevrolet Uplander does not have the wiring for a 7-way trailer connector or a brake controller already installed. So the #3015-P will not work for you. In order to install a brake controller, like the Prodigy P2 #90885…
I checked with my tech contact at our distributor for the Everchill Refrigerator for RVs #324-000119 and he confirmed that this unit does not use a Danfoss compressor. This 12V unit does use R134A refrigerant (Tetrafluoroethane) which is an…
Congratulations on the addition to the family! I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2008 Chevy Uplander and it lists a maximum trailer weight of 3,500 pounds. With this in mind your van is more than up to the task of…
When you are hardwiring a trailer brake controller like the Prodigy P2 #90885 the red wire connection that provides the triggering signal to the controller should be made to the wire on the COLD SIDE of the brake light switch circuit. This is the…
The Thule Spare Me Bike rack part #TH963PRO and the Yakima Spare Tire part #Y02599 both do come with locks to secure the rack to your spare tire and cable locks to secure the bikes to the carrier. The biggest difference between the two and is only an…
A 4-Way trailer connector has the basic lighting functions only; running lights, left turn signal and brake lights, right turn signal and brake lights, and ground. A 7-Way has these functions and a 12 volt circuit, a circuit for electric trailer…
Actually, the P3 now has the upgraded axis accelerometer like the P2. The Tekonsha P3 Trailer Brake Controller #90195, will work with both electric over hydraulic brakes on the trailer as well as electric brakes. It has a menu option on the display…
The difference between the Class II and Class III hitches has to do with their Gross Trailer Weight (GTW), their Tongue Weight (TW), and their Hitch Receiver Size. Class II trailer hitch receivers have a 1-1/4 inch receiver and can be rated up to…
The best brake controller option to go with is one that activates the brakes proportionally instead of time delayed. A proportional brake controller will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity as the tow vehicle…
The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty #RED24FR is the way to go over the Elite #RED44FR as you get the nicer functions of the Elite at a lower price. The Elite has the ability to be the more preferred proportional style of controller as well as a time-delayed…
If you have a vehicle specific wiring harness for a brake controller then that would indicate that you have a factory tow package and subsequently would already have a 7-way at the back of your vehicle. The universal 7-way connector #ETBC7 is meant…
I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller #RED24FR for your 2023 Toyota Tacoma with the factory tow package. You will be able to connect the wiring using the Redarc Adapter #RED99FR directly to the factory connector. We also have the…
