Is Separate Wiring Needed if Installing Hitch 87626 on 2012 Ford Escape with 1-1/4-Inch OEM Hitch
Question:
Hello. I have a 2012 Ford Escape with a 11/4 factory hitch , It has a factory installed plug next to the receiver. I am interested in the 87626 2inch receiver hitch for the car. Says it will fit under my factory hitch. Do I need another wiring or just use the installed wiring? Thank you.

You are correct that the Hidden Hitch Class III hitch 87626 can be installed on your 2012 Ford Escape with a 1-1/4-inch factory hitch, but do note that both hitches CANNOT ever be used at the same time. This would overload the vehicle's hitch attachment points on the frame.
The factory trailer wiring that you have in place will work just fine for any trailer you will pull with either hitch. You do NOT need to install an additional trailer wiring harness to go along with the new secondary hitch.
You would only need to add additional wiring components if you will tow a trailer that requires more than the basic trailer lighting circuits that are handled by a 4-pole flat type trailer connector. For example, if you were to need to tow a trailer with electric brakes you would have to add a 7-way socket like # 37185 and install a brake controller like the Tekonsha P2 # 90885. If not, then you're all set.
For reference, the linked article shows these and other types of trailer wiring connectors. I also included an article with hitch installation tips.
