Recommended Roof Rack And Hitch Mounted Goalpost For 2013 Toyota Tacoma To Carry Ladders
Question:
I have a 2013 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab with a Retrax Tonneau bed cover which prevents me from having a standard ladder rack. I was wondering if a roof rack mounted to my roof would support an 18 foot ladder and a step ladder? Or if you have a solution to have a standard ladder rack in the bed? Thanks.

We should be able to come up with a solution that will work for your 2013 Toyota Tacoma. The roof rack you choose will depend on the style roof you have.
If you have a naked roof with no existing rails or crossbars, I recommend the Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack. This features 54 inch aero crossbars and custom clamps and pads. To order this system you need parts # RRVA137B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK174. The weight capacity for this rack is 165 lbs.
If you have siderails that run front to back on the roof of your Tacoma I recommend The Thule SquareBar Roof Rack. This has 53 inch square crossbars and the foot pack that attaches to the side rails. For this system you would need part # TH712400, and part # TH710401.
I then recommend the Rhino-Rack T-Load Hitch Mounted Load Bar, part # RTL002. This works with 2 inch trailer hitches only and telescopes vertically from 42 to 64 inches. This rack includes 2 load stops on the 49 inch load bar that will help secure your ladders in place. I have attached a link to a product review video for the Goalpost you can check out.
If you do not have a trailer hitch on your Tacoma I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 75236. This is a Class lll hitch and has a 2 inch receiver opening. I have attached a link to an installation of this trailer hitch on a 2013 Tacoma you may want to take a look at.
You will want to check your owner's manual or with your dealership to make sure you do not exceed the roof weight capacity of your Tacoma.
