Does Curt Trailer Wiring Harness C59236 Work with Incandescent and LED Trailer Lights
Question:
My 2008 VW Passat manual clearly states not to use LEDs on a trailer or it could cause damage to the electrical system. Any ideas as to why? and if i use the c59236 kit will it be safe to use LED trailer lights even though its stated not to?

Expert Reply:
Trailer wiring harness # C59236 for the 2008 Volkswagen Passat is compatible with LED or incandescent lights. The wiring harness gets power for the trailer lights directly from the vehicle battery to not only power the trailer lights but also add another layer of circuit protection between the trailer and the vehicle's sensitive wiring.
The warning you found would be for if you were to use a trailer wiring kit for your vehicle from Volkswagen.
