Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller to a 1996 Chevy Tahoe with 4-Way
Question:
I have a 1996 Chevy Tahoe with the factory hitch, tranny cooler and a 4 pin trailer plug. I would like to know if this model year came pre wired for a 7 pin trailer plug? I have read that some models have the wiring tuck up next to the frame and run into the engine bay. Do you a database that would show if this model and year came with that wiring? Thank you

From what I could find the 1996 Chevy Tahoe does not have all the wiring run under the vehicle. Some models might have the blue brake output and orange or red wire for 12 volt power along the driver's side frame rail. But from what we found the wires are difficult to access.
To add a 7-Way you would need to hardwire it in. I recommend the 4- and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. Your 4-Way will plug into this adapter and then you will just hardwire the remaining wires.
White will need to ground to the vehicle frame
Black connects to the positive battery terminal via the included 40 amp circuit breaker
Blue goes to the blue wire of a brake controller
Purple is for reverse lights
If you want to add a brake controller I recommend the P2, # 90885, because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. I have included a couple of links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you.
