Choosing Weight Distribution Shank with Correct Rise or Drop for 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe
Question:
I have question regarding ball mounts. I had a 1996 Silverado 4x4 stock p/u. I tow a 19foot hideout travel trailer. I have a Reese RP3215 shank, and the head piece is in the 2nd and 4th position. The trailer sits level when all hooked up. I now will be towing with a 2015 Tahoe. The height difference from the ground to the inside portion of the receiver is 6inch higher than the 1996 p/u. I need to get another mount but not sure if the CURT C17124 or the Reese 3244 would work or do I need the CURT 17125 to solve my dilemma. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You can certainly use a Curt shank with a Reese weight Distribution system. Weight distribution shanks from Reese and Curt Manufacturing both use the same 1-1/4 inch hole spacing. Ideally, you'd want the manufacturer of the W/D system and the shank to match, but if Reese doesn't offer the specific rise/drop you need, you can use a Curt shank.
Because your Tahoe sits six inches higher than your previous tow vehicle, you will need a shank with 4 inches more drop. Check out the Curt shank part # C17123. This shank will give you a drop of 8-1/4 inches, which will be plenty for your application.
