If your 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD is less than an 8 foot bed, you will still probably need a slider.
You have a couple of options for 2002 GMC Sierra. If you have a 6 foot bed, I would suggest the Curt Fifth Wheel with Slider, part # C16541, with the custom fit install bracket kit part # RP50064-58. The custom fit install kit dramatically reduces install time by using existing holes in the truck frame. These are much easier to install than the old universal kits.
If you have an 8 foot bed you could use the same install kit, but you could use a fixed hitch instead of a slider like part # RP30928.
