Replacing Damaged 7-Way Trailer Connector and Wiring on a 2005 Chevy Silverado
Question:
My trailer came loose and broke off my 7 point receiver, and torn the wires loose. I want to replace the receiver, but not sure how it was wired up from the factory, also want the 4 wire hook up attached to that receiver as well.

To replace the 7-Way trailer connector on your 2005 Chevy Silverado with a 7- and 4-Way I recommend # HM40975 and wiring harness # PK11998. To determine how to wire up the harness to the truck wiring you will need to use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 and have someone sit in the truck and run through the lighting functions will you test the wires. Then you can wire in the new harness by function.
The wire function/colors for the new harness are:
Red - Left Turn and Stop
White - Ground
Blue - Electric Brakes
Green - Right Turn and Stop
Black - Battery
Brown - Running Lamps
Yellow - Backup Lamps
Regarding the trailer coming loose make sure that the coupler is in good working order and that you are using the right ball size for it. Any idea why the trailer came loose?
