If the system is rated too low for the trailer weight, it can allow your trailer to sway.
With that said, to choose a properly tuned weight distribution system for your trailer you will need to go by the total effective tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the measured tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. Please refer to the linked article for some great information. There are WD systems with or without sway control.
Based on your tongue weight of 1,220 pounds, I would go with a 1,500 pound weight distribution system. I recommend the Reese straight-line with sway control # RP66130 because the cams will lock into place and hold trailer steady with crosswinds. The tongue weight is 800-1,500 pounds and gross towing weight is 15,000 pounds.
If need an adjustable shank, go with the Reese shank # RP54970 that has a tongue weight of 1,500 pounds. It has a 5-1/4 inch rise and 2-inch drop.
I have included a couple informative articles and video review for you too.
