1999 Dodge Dakota Sport Sags at the Back When Towing a Trailer

Question:

When pulling an older 16foot travel trailer, the rear of my truck rides lower... with the front end raising a bit truck not level. I have pulled the trailer like this, but would prefer the truck to be as level as possible. Would this system fit my needs? Also, will this particular enhancement system work on my Dakota Sport ext. cab, picture attached? total trailer tongue weight is 500 pounds

Helper springs like Timbren # TDDR00 are designed to help keep the truck level when carrying heavy loads in the vehicle. When sag is caused by a trailer the best solution is weight distribution otherwise you are putting extra stress on the trailer.

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

I have included some links on weight distribution and determining tongue weight for you.

For a tongue weight of 500 pounds I recommend Equal-I-Zer weight distribution system # EQ37060ET. It is rated up to 600 pounds tongue weight.

And if you wanted to add sway control you could use # 17200.
