Can a Transmission Cooler Be Installed on 2013 Ford Edge

Question:

Hello, We have a recently purchased 2013 Ford Edge Sport Utility, we were told that this could pull our trailer and ATV 1200# total weight by the Ford Dealer as well as several tow hitch installers. We travel anywhere from 2 to 10 hours at a time and believed we needed both the hitch and an engine cooler installed. The first hitch place said they could install the hitch and cooler when we picked up the vehicle the hitch was installed but they said they found they could cooler. Thinking we had at least two other options, we have made appointments but have since been told that neither of the other places will install the cooler either. On your website, you list Ford Edge Non Sport...is there an issue that you know of that prevents a hitch and/or cooler being installed on the Edge Sport Utility? We have not been given any specific reasons from the other places, just cancellation of the install and being told they were not comfortable doing it. Thanks!

I spoke with my contact at Derale, our supplier of transmission coolers about your question. He tells me that there isn't anything unusual about your Ford Edge (or the Sport model) that would inhibit you from having a transmission cooler installed. He went on to tell me that the owner of the company had a Ford Edge, and that they successfully installed a transmission cooler on that vehicle.

To choose a cooler, you'd want to measure the available space in the most efficient place to mount the cooler, which is directly behind the grille, in front of the radiator and A/C condenser. The Derale # D13502 would be a good choice if you have room to accommodate its 11x7-1/4 size. The install is something that any competent mechanic should be able to compete in a short period of time.

I'll link you to some FAQ articles about transmission coolers that may be helpful to you.
