Transmission Cooler for 1998 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Pickup Towing 7000-lb Trailer Load
Question:
I have a 1998 Chevrolet 1500 with a 5.7L and it is 4wd. I would like to get a transmission cooler. I am towing a 4k trailer and a 3k car. I would like to get the best cooling transmission cooler. Is the D13504 Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class IV the one to go with? Also is the D13035 Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter The one to go with? Thanks.

The good news is that since transmission coolers are not vehicle-specific you are free to install as large a cooler as you have the room to install it. Coolers come in several class ratings depending on their cooling action; I suggest a Class IV cooler like the 11 x 12-inch Derale # 13504 you referenced or the larger 15 x 10 Derale # D12904. For either one you will use hose fitting kit # D13035.
Two linked articles will give you lots of good background on transmission coolers and I've included install videos for each Derale cooler.
