Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Converter on a 2014 Toyota Sienna Turn Signal Stays Illuminated
Question:
I purchased a Curt 56106 and installed per video instructions last November 2014. After installation, everything worked correctly until about 2 months after install. Now when ignition is on the right directional stays illuminated at all times. I re-installed making sure every connections was tight including assuring solid ground and correct voltage from the dedicated hot wire. I even removed the white ground wire completely and as long as the hot wire is connected, the right side lights stay on all the time whether the ground is in contact or not. Is it possible the main unit has developed a flaw? Please advise. Searches on line have indicated some other people have had problems with this unit. Hopkins makes a unit for this application, but you do not list is as available? Have you had any problems with this unit or the Hopkins unit.

The converter you have is bad. If the signal going into the converter is good, but coming out of it is bad then the problem is a shorted out converter and it would need to be replaced.
Before you replace it you will want to inspect the wiring of your trailer to see if you can find anything that would cause the box to short out like corrosion or cut/exposed wiring. These boxes don't usually go out unless there is a short on the trailer that takes it out.
For a replacement wiring harness I would recommend the Tow Ready part # 118498. We tend to have better luck with the Tow Ready wiring harnesses.
