Do Thermostatic-Controlled Oil Coolers Allow All Engine Oil to Flow Once Warmed Up

Question:

I purchased an engine oil cooler. The description states In addition, the thermostatic bypass feature allows oil cooler than 180 degrees to bypass the heat exchanger, so your engine will warm up faster. The unit has a thermastatic spring that blocks an opening partially but does not seal it off. There is no complete seal. Does this perform by partially blocking the flow then allows full flow after 180 degrees is reached? I can send a picture if needed. Thanks,

Without knowing exactly what oil cooler you bought it's hard to say for certain if the sandwich adapter you have operates like you described, but I can say that the norm is that once the oil reaches 180 degrees the adapter allows all of the oil to pass through it and on to the engine cooler.
