What to do With the Extra Wires on 4 to 7 Pole Adapter for a Camper Trailer
Question:
I bought the 4 to 7 wire adaptor and was wondering. Mr camper has a 7 flat on it but the only thing we need is the tail lights and brake lights. Can we rewire that and if not what do I need to do with the extra wires to just get the lights to work.

On the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector, # 30717, the extra wires can be taped off, tied up with a cable tie, and tucked out of the way if not in use. I would attach the white ground wire to an existing grounding point or the vehicle frame even if you do not intend on adding a brake controller (which is what the other wires are for).
You would then attach the vehicles 4-Way into the 4-Way end of the adapter and plug your trailer connector into the 7-Way for lights only.
If you ever decide to add a brake controller (and if your trailer already has electric breaks it is probably a good idea) we have many to choose from. I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. Since, you already have a 4-Way connection at the rear of your vehicle, you would just need a 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7, to hard wire the vehicle for a brake controller.
I have included the instructions for the Prodigy below as well as an FAQ on brake controller wiring from scratch should you decide a brake controller is the way to go.
