Parts Needed to Install a Brake Controller for a 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500

Question:

I am interested in the Tekonsha Powertrac Time Delayed Electric Brake Controller part 39523. I have a 2008 Chevy 1500 Silverado with a class three hitch and 7 pole electrical connector. It seems as if all the tail light flash when the hazard lights are activated so I expect I would need the Pulse Preventer, part # 5501, but I'm not sure. Also, would I need the Brake Controller Adapter to plug in under the dash? The trailer is a 25 Holiday Rambler tandem axle.

On newer vehicles, especially those with tow packages, a pulse preventer is not needed. It was a problem with older trucks that is not present anymore. Should it become a problem later, you can always add it, but I doubt you will need to.

There is not a plug in connector for the Tekonsha Powertrac brake controller, part # 39523, for your 2008 Chevrolet Silverado. In 2007 when GM switched the truck bodies, they did away with brake controller ports. They now use a bundle of wires that you will splice to.

I have added a link to a brake controller help page that lists which color in the truck bundle serves which function as well as a video that shows a brake controller install on a 2008 GMC Sierra.
