Rhino-Rack Roof Rack, Basket, and Cargo Bag for 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan with Side Rails

I have a 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan with factory raised rails. It has a panoramic sunroof that I would still like to use. I am wanting to purchase a set of cross rails, cargo basket, and possibly cargo bag. I was leaning towards the Rhino-Rack part #RRVA118B-2, paired with the Rhino-Rack feet part #RRSX022, and the Rhino-Rack cargo carrier part #RMCB. I was wondering if this set up will fit and work on my vehicle. If not would you point me to a good set up. I am about to take my family on several getaways and we will be on the road for many hours. Roof rack manufacturers universal agree that you should not open the panoramic roof on your 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan with the crossbars installed. The issue is that the open roof could make contact with the bottoms of the bars and damage the roof and the bars. Also, the noise would likely be too much and you'd want it closed anyway.

With that said on the Rhino-Rack roof rack bars # RRVA118B-2 and feet # RRSX022 the bottoms of the bars will be approximately 1 inch up from the tops of the side rails on your Tiguan.

The roof mount basket, # RMCB, will fit this roof rack. It has a capacity of 165 pounds but the limiting factor will likely be the side rails and/or roof of the Tiguan. You will need to consult the vehicle owners manual and/or Volkswagen for the roof and side rail capacities and go by the lowest rating. Staying within the lowest capacity will prevent damage from overloading.

For a bag that you can mount to the Rhino-Rack basket you can use # RL100S20. It has 15 cubic feet of storage space. Another useful item is a tire step, # PT68ZR, that is easier and safer to use than standing in an open door on the vehicle.
