Hitch and Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2015 Subaru Outback Carrying Electric Bike

Question:

I have a 2015 Subaru outback looking for a rack that can accommodate 1 electric bike step thru probably about 50 lbs and then a standard bike either mountain bike or road bike. Prefer a hitch-mounted platform style. Ease of use is important! Some of the racks I liked on your site had a 50 or 70 lb weight limit, which is cutting it close, but I didnt know if those are very conservative, or pretty hard and fast numbers. Thank you!

The first thing you will need is a hitch for your 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon like part # 75673 that has been confirmed to fit your vehicle and would do an excellent job carrying your bikes.

For a platform bike rack that is designed for use with electric bikes I would recommend the Thule EasyFold 2 Bike Rack # TH903202. This would have more than enough capacity and would be an excellent choice for carrying both of your bikes. This rack has a 132 lbs total / 66 lbs per bike capacity.

A less expensive rack with higher capacity would be the part # HR1450E. It has an 80 lb per bike capacity.
