Parts Needed to Install Derale 15301 Cooler in 2009 Nissan Frontier 4.0
Question:
Hi, Ok, I think I have finally decided on an oil cooler. Thank you for your previous help and putting up with my indecision, you guys are great. I would have liked to order the D15902 but I dont have the room. I would like to know what installation kits I need to mount this 15301 cooler in a 2009 Nissan frontier 4.0 for cooling transmission and engine oils not power steering. This will be installed next to the OEM transmission cooler in front of the radiator and in front of the power steering cooler. I will also be installing a derale transmission filter kit with temp gauge D13091. I want to have all of the necessary parts when I go to install. I dont know the thread sizes or anything on this truck. I can look but I was hoping you guys knew. I need a thermostatic sandwich adapter right? Will I need a fluid control thermostat D15719/D13011 also? For the transmission? I dont live in a cold climate. Does the transmission really need that? Also, Im a bit thrown off because of the existing OEM transmission cooler which is on passenger side in front of radiator. I will be mounting the new cooler to the right of this does it matter which one is upstream or downstream? Does that make sense? I just connect the new one to the existing one right? This also probably matters regarding install kits/fittings Im guessing. Thank you again, too many things to think about, sorry

I spoke with my contact at Deraile and he said to install the Derale Combination Transmission/Engine Oil Cooler # D15301 on your 2009 Nissan Frontier you will need installation kit # D15751 and Derale -8 AN Female Swivel x 1/2" Barb Hose Fitting # D98202. It comes with a thermostatic controlled sandwich adapter so that it will allow your vehicle to reach operating temperature.
The Derale Remote Transmission Filter Kit w/ Temperature Gauge # D13091, that you referenced would be a good idea for you to monitor your transmission coolers to let you know if you have an adequate cooling system, or if you should invest in another transmission cooler.
The added filter would also help prolong the life of your transmission. When it comes to the temperature of your transmission you can not cool it enough, so you would not have to worry about over-cooling your transmission.
You will not need a fluid control thermostat for the transmission since you do not live in a cold climate.
You will want to connect the transmission cooler downstream of your factory cooler. This will provide you with the best possible cooling potential. All of the needed fittings are included.
I have linked you to some FAQ articles about transmission coolers that you might find helpful.
