Kayak Carrier Recommendation for 2009 Ford F-150 With Factory Folding Tonneau Cover
Question:
Hi, Im looking for a rack to carry a Kayak on a 2009 Ford F150 Crew Cab short bed truck. I have a factory installed tri-fold hard tonneau cover. Do you know of a specific model that will mount while the tri-fold hard tonneau cover is in place? Thanks.

A ladder rack is one option for transporting your kayak on your F-150 that has the dealer-installed folding tonneau cover, but note there can sometimes be interference between the common mounting requirements for tonneau covers and ladder racks since both install on the bed rails.
I can offer you a simple and very cost-effective option IF your tonneau cover can handle the weight of your kayak. We offer foam block carriers that are very inexpensive, simple to install and that weigh very little, making one of these an ideal low-cost option for you. You can use the link provided to see various foam block carriers such as the Malone Deluxe kayak carrier # MPG152 that is illustrated in the linked video. This carrier kit includes straps to secure the blocks, but you may need to add longer straps to reach under the tonneau cover, such as Erickson # EM51215 which are 15- feet long with S-hooks.
Another option is to use a load support bar in your truck's hitch, such as the Rhino-Rack T-Load # RTL002, along with a roof rack on the truck's cab. You can use the link provided to see compatible roof racks for your SuperCrew cab. I recommend the Rhino-Rack Heavy-Duty rack system that consists of parts # RB1500B-2, # RRRLKHD and # DK150 for its moderate price and 145-lb weight capacity.
