Initial Set-Up for 12" Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assemblies # 23-458 and # 23-459
Question:
I just purchased never adjust brakes. They did not come with dust plugs. Also they were very hard to adjust the little piece of metal that automatically adjust the brakes completely covered the adjuster wheel on three of the assemblies. Next question I think I may have rounded some of the teeth on one of the adjuster wheels. I was going to use one form my old assembly Not never adjust but it did not look as big. Are they different? my older assemblies were Axeltek. Thanks. Also after installing I can barley feel trailer drag when brakes are applied at low speeds and trailer gain all the way up.

I want to start by thanking you again for your purchase. We truly appreciate your business.
When it comes to the 12" Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assemblies, # 23-458 and # 23-459, the mounting bolts, nuts, washers, and adjuster plugs are sold separately. For adjuster plugs you will need part # BP10-220.
As for replacing the adjuster wheel with one from your older assemblies, it most likely will not work.
Last but not least, the performance of the brake assemblies. Poor performance is quite often due to the lack of synchronization between the tow vehicle and the trailer. Before any synchronization adjustments are made, your trailer brakes should be burnished-in by applying the brakes 20 to 30 times to decrease the speed by 20 mph. Example, once reaching 40 mph use the manual override to slow down to 20 mph. Once at 20 mph, release the manual override and travel about a mile to allow ample time for brakes to cool and repeat the process again. You will need to repeat this process 20 to 30 times. This allows the brake shoes and magnets to slightly wear-in to the drum surface.
