Travel Trailer Tire Recommendation to Replace a 175/80R13

Question:

My trailer tires are SR175/80R13. I need to purchase a replacement tire but I note that everyone sells ST175/80R13. What is the difference between a SR and a ST tire?

SR usually refers to the speed rating of a tire. ST stands for Specialty Tire and would be what you would want to use on your travel trailer. This kind of tire has a stronger sidewall than an automobile or truck tire so it can handle higher air pressures and higher loads.

For a replacement tire I would go with the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10210. This is a radial tire. A radial tire flexes more than a bias tire, giving it better ground contact, traction, stability, and tread wear.

A radial tire will normally run cooler than a bias ply tire, especially when the tire is under a load. A tire that runs cooler will last longer.
