Is Kenda Karrier ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10295 Suitable to Replace Load Range G Tire

Question:

I was reading the review/QandA regarding this tire and have a few questions. I am currently running a 4 horse trailer, 41foot GVWR just under 14,000lbs. I am looking to replace a Goodyear tire 235/85R16 load range g that has steel belted sidewalls as well. Prior, I was running with 10plys and had numerous blowouts. I live in Vt and make a few trips up and down the east coast, sometimes at the slime of year. Would this tire be appropriate for my purposes?

The Kenda Karrier ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10295 is rated as a Load range E tire that will fit 16-inch rims of widths from 6-inches to 7-1/2-inches. This trailer tire offers a maximum weight carrying capacity of 3640-lbs at 95 psi pressure (when used singly) or 3200-lbs when used in a dual tire application.

The highest-rated radial tire we offer in your size is the Load Range F Kenda # AM10501 which has a maximum load capacity of 3,960-lbs at 110 psi. Please note that any trailer tire should ALWAYS be inflated to its maximum pressure as noted on its sidewall. Trailer tires should never be over- or under-inflated as this will either reduce capacity or lead to premature failure.

Since I do not know whether you're running dual tires or how many axles your trailer has, I cannot tell you with certainty if switching to this tire on your trailer will give you enough capacity. You can do that math to determine if a Load Range F tire is adequate.

All other things being equal, it is better to run tires with more capacity than you need. Running a set of tires below its maximum capacity means less heat build-up and the probability of a longer life.
