Recommended Base Plates And Flat-Towing Components For 1989 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup

Question:

What is the 3 inch measurement you are talking about. I am looking at purchasing the Roadmaster Black Hawk 2 tow bar rated at 10000lbs and the Roadmaster base plates. I will be mounting the base plates on my 89 Chevy K1500 pick up. Please advise if the tow bar and base lates will work for my application.

The 3 inch measurement you asked about is needed to make sure you choose the correct base plates for your 1989 Chevrolet C/K Series pickup. I have attached a drawing that shows where you can take the measurement you can check out.

If you have three inches per the diagram I recommend the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit, part # 131-15. This kit features removable drawbars that make it almost invisible when removed.

If the measurement you take is 1-1/4 inches, the base plate kit I recommend is the Roadmaster MX Base Plate Kit, part # 131-3.

When flat-towing a vehicle you will need 5 items. You will need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting for the towed vehicle, and most states now require a supplemental brake system on a towed vehicle.

The RoadMaster Blackhawk 2 All Terrain Tow Bar, part # RM-422 will work well with either of the base plate kits I mentioned above.

The safety cables I recommend are the Roadmaster Coiled Safety Cables, part # RM-643. These are vinyl-coated which protects the tow bar paint from chipping and scratches.

For lighting I recommend the Roadmaster Standard Magnetic Tow Lights, part # RM-2120. These allow you to tow your truck and eliminates the need to tap into the pickup wiring.

The supplemental brake system I recommend is the Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251. It doesn't need to be removed from your Chevy when you're driving the truck.

I have attached some helpful articles about flat-towing you can check out.
