We can help you with choosing a suitable trailer brake controller as well as the correct wiring harness and other components to get you ready for towing.
The brake controller you referenced, the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885, is the most popular unit we sell and it is highly rated by our customers for its easy set up and reliable performance. Plus this controller offers the flexibility to work with both electric and electric-over-hydraulic trailer brakes. Not all brake controllers have this capability. The P2 is the controller I most often recommend and it is an excellent choice.
The other items needed will vary depending on how your truck is equipped from the factory. If there is no factory trailer connector and no wiring at all on the rear of the truck then you will need a 4-pole wiring harness # 119178KIT and our brake controller install kit # ETBC7 which includes the 7-way socket, wiring, connectors, etc that are needed to complete the installation. Both an article and a video are linked for you, along with the written instructions, to illustrate the installation process.
If your truck came with a factory-installed trailer connector then it may have an under-dash port to allow a quick-connect wiring adapter to plug in your Prodigy. The connector is roughly square in shape and is located near the OBD-II port. In this case you will use wiring adapter # 3021-P to connect the P2 to the port under the dashboard and will not need the ETBC7.
