Is a Slider Hitch Required to Tow a Fifth Wheel Trailer with a 2015 Short Bed Ram 2500

Question:

When I bought my 2013 jayco eagle fifth wheel, the Rv dealer talked me into a husky 16k slider hitch because of having a short bed truck. We have been everywhere and still not needed to use the slider. My Eagle has rounded front corners thinking maybe thats why. I getting ready to order a new 2015 2500 short bed ram gooseneck/fifth wheel prep. Just wondering could I get by with the BandW campion Ram hitch instead purchasing another slider.

If you have a narrow nosed fifth wheel trailer that has an extended pin box it is possible that you wouldn't have to use a slider hitch. However, this is a highly unusual situation.

Most likely if your current trailer didn't require a slider hitch be used with it on your old truck then you wouldn't have to use one with your new truck either.

Use the formula below to ensure there will be enough space between your truck cab and trailer when executing a 90-degree turn.

(A) - C = Clearance

A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab

C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

You'll want to have at least 4 inches of clearance to safely execute a 90 degree turn.

If you don't need a slider then you could use the Companion part # BWRVK3600.

If not, you will want the adapter part # RP30154 and a slider hitch like your Husky hitch.
