There are 2 types of brake controllers: time delayed and proportional. Proportional brake controllers are recommended because they will apply the trailer brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. Using a proportional controller is the safest way to stop and they reduce wear and tear on the vehicle and trailer.

Time delay controllers send back a pre-determined amount of voltage over a set period of time no matter how hard the vehicle is braking. This means time delay controllers require more adjustments to get them just right. Time delay controllers do not have to be mounted in a specific orientation like proportional controllers so they have more mounting options.

Based on the above information I recommend a proportional controller, the P2, # 90885. It is one of the best selling controllers because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable.

for your 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser with factory 7-Way you will also need harness # 3040-P to plug the brake controller into the vehicle.
