Weight distribution should be used if the gross trailer weight is at least 50 percent of the vehicle weight or if the rear of the vehicle sags when the trailer is hooked up. It is possible that your truck weighs at or less than 5,200 pounds and, if so, weight distribution would be a good idea.

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

Tongue weight is usually 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. So a 2,600 pound trailer would have a tongue weight of 260 to 390 pounds. Based on this I recommend a system rated up to 550 pounds such as the Pro Series system # PS49901.

This system comes with everything including the shank and a 2-5/16 inch ball. If a 2 inch ball is needed use # A-90. The shank has a maximum drop of 2 inches and maximum rise of 6 inches. If you need a shank with more drop to tow the trailer level you could use # RP3344 with a maximum drop of 8-5/8 inches. The next spot up would make the drop 7-3/8 inches, and the next spot after that would make the drop 6-1/8 inches. If that is too much drop # RP3215 has a drop from 1-3/4 inches to 6-3/4 inches.

I have included some helpful links on weight distribution and measuring for rise and drop for you.
