Brake Controller and 7-Way Recommendation for a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor

Question:

I emailed quite some time ago about which parts are needed to install a brake controller and 7-pin wiring harness on my 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor Limited. The vehicle came with the towing package and am currently towing with my 4 pin that came with the towing package. I would like to put the 7-pin on my vehicle to be able to use electric brakes for my pop-up camper. The other reason I wanted the 7-pin was to charge my battery on my pop-up camper while in route. Ive read on a number of forums where people do this all the time. In the videos Ive been watching on this part # they are always not using the purple wire. Is that what is needed to charge my battery on my pop-up or will it charge it with the other 6 wires in use? If the purple wire is what I need, how do I hook it up to achieve what Im looking for? Thanks in advance for the help.

Since you have a 4-way at the rear of your 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor you will only need a brake controller and the part # ETBC7 that you referenced to install the controller and have a fully functional 7-way at the rear of your vehicle. This will allow you to control the brakes of your trailer as well as put a maintenance charge on the battery of your pop-up.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.

On the 7-way there will be a 12 volt accessory circuit wire that will be used to charge the battery of your pop up. If you check out the picture I attached you will see the circuit marked 12 v Battery Power. That is the circuit to use. You will run this circuit to the positive post of your trailer battery with some 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 sold by the foot.

The purple wire is usually used for reverse lights, so it wouldn't typically be the correct circuit to use unless someone just so happened to run their 12 volt circuit with purple wire (not likely).
