Flat Towing Parts Recommendation for a 1996 GMC Sonoma
Question:
I am looking for a tow bar to pull my GMC Sonoma. It is 4x4 Auto w/manual xfercase. Nothing fancy. All I can find on your site are base plates with no mention of a tow bar. Is it not available and if so what is the base plate for?

We have everything you will need to flat tow your 1996 GMC Sonoma 4x4. First let's start with a base plate kit. For that you would want the part # BX1616 as this is the confirmed kit for your vehicle.
Now for a tow bar the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar # BX7380 would be a great choice. It comes with safety cables and has telescoping arms which will make connecting and disconnecting on uneven ground easier. I attached a review video for you to check out.
For lighting I would recommend the magnetic lighting kit # RM-2120 so that you won't have to mess with splicing into your vehicle's wiring.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system, # RM-9400, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.
