Recommend for Routing Wire Through Firewall of a 2014 Nissan Murano for Brake Controller Install
Question:
Im installing the ETBC7 in a 2014 Nissan Murano today. The engine compartment is different than the 2009 Murano shown in the video. It is very difficult to access the grommet and the grommet seems to be different than a regular grommet. After several hours I am still not able to cut all the way through the grommet. I have tried cutting the edge with a razor knife, using an exacto knife on a stick, poking through with a sharpened coat hanger. I can get part way through and then it everything stops. A quick internet search of Murano firewall grommet shows I am not alone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like there is something on the other side of the grommet that is preventing you from going all the way through it. You basically have three options at this point. You can either try to find a different grommet to use on the firewall (there may not be one), you can try to find a grommet in the floor board of your vehicle and use that one instead, or you can find an accessible location on both the cab and under-hood side of your firewall and drill your own hole to use.
I had a similar problem routing wires through the firewall of my old car. I had to drill a small hole in the firewall, use a proper sized grommet, and then route the wire through that hole instead. I ended up picking a bad location though as the cowl of the vehicle drained rain water on the wire which then led the water into my car. So choose where you drill wisely!
