Best Weight Distribution Recommendation for a Trailer with 975 lb Tongue Weight

Question:

I am looking at two BLUE OX weight distribution systems. My trailers GTW is 7,800 TW is 975 pounds. BXW1000 GTW 10,000 TW 1000 pounds. BXW1500 GTW 15,000 TW 1500 pounds. TW 975 is close to Max. TW 1000. Does BXW1500 cause any problems with the lighter trailer? What would you suggest?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You want to pick a system where the loaded tongue weight falls right into the middle of the tongue weight range of the system.

Since your tongue weight is 975 lbs I would recommend the Strait Line weight distribution system part # RP66084. This system has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs which would be perfect for you, plus it has the only sway control system on the market designed to prevent sway before it starts.

For whatever reason there isn't a weight distribution system designed to work ideally for a setup with a 1,000 lb tongue weight. The # BXW1000 is rated too low and the # BXW1500 is rated too high. Using a system rated too high will give you a very harsh ride.
