Brake Controller Recommendation For 2010 Chevrolet Silverado Z71
Question:
I have a 2010 1500 z71 4x4 silverado. Can I use just any controller for a travel trailer? I was looking at the Prodigy line, can I use just any of them? And I also read something about a fuse to be put in because it's a Z71. Is there instructions to this?

For your 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. This is one of our most popular brake controllers because it is so easy to install and operate. This controller comes with detailed instructions for setting up and operation. It works with trailers that have electric or electric-over-hydraulic brakes on 1 to 4 axles. This is a proportional brake controller which means it will activate the trailer brakes in proportion to the brakes on your Silverado. I have attached a link to an installation video for a brake controller on a 2009 Silverado you can take a look at.
I have attached a helpful article that explains the installation of a brake controller you can check out. You will need to locate the power distribution box under the hood and make sure the fuses needed for the brake controller and the 7-way connector are installed. Many times they are already present. If they are not, you will need to insert your own fuses. You can check your owners manual to make sure you locate the correct fuses.
