Will we have to alter the trailer itself or can this be ed and then changed out again later? Can we do this at home? How does the BWTEXA4200 attach to the trailer itself?

The B&W Extend-A-Goose Gooseneck Coupler # BWTEXA4200 that you referenced installs on your trailer in place of the standard inner tube. The Extend-A-Goose slides into the goose neck trailer's larger outer tube (4-inch diameter is standard).

This is certainly something you can do yourself provided that the coupler's 50-lb weight is not an issue. This coupler can be removed and re-installed as needed. It provides an additional 10-inches of clearance thanks to its angled design. The height adjustment range is 8-inches relative to the outer tube.
