How to Carry a Kayak on a 2014 Honda CR-V without a Roof Rack

Question:

I just got a 2014 honda crv lx. It did not come with a factory roof rack like my 1999 did. What do I need to carry my kayak? Thank you.

You have a couple of options to carry the kayak on the roof of your 2014 Honda CR-V. First, if you don't want to spend a lot of money I recommend a foam block kit, # RL100K10. The blocks set on the vehicle roof and the kayak will rest on the blocks. You will use the included straps to tie down the bow and stern and to secure everything to the vehicle by routing 2 of the straps through the interior of the vehicle.

The other option is to install a roof rack and use a carrier on the new rack. For a CR-V with a bare roof, no side rails or crossbars, the most economical option is Rhino-Rack roof rack using the following parts:

Aero bars # RRVA137B-2
Feet # RRRLKVA
Fit kit # DK284

You could then use a carrier such as # S510.

If your CR-V has the side rails that run front to back then you would need to use a Thule roof rack using # TH7602-TH7603 with fit kit # THKIT3118. These bars are going to look more OEM and will be quieter while creating less drag. You can use the Stacker, # TH830, as a carrier.
