Trailer Hitch and Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2015 Chevy Traverse

Question:

Is the Roadmaster 523175-4 Tow Bar Bracket made to fit the Falcon Tow Bar or is it the 523175-5 ? Also does the 523175 Brackets made for a 2015 Chevy Traverse? Do you have the exact hitch as Chevy OEM # 20781543

The EZ4 base plates, # 523175-4, and EZ5 base plates # RM-523175-5 will both work with the Falcon tow bar. Both of these base plate sets are only compatible with Roadmaster tow bars that fit into a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver and thus mount on the motor home. The Falcon tow bars do fit this description.

In addition to the base plates and the tow bar you will also need safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow the vehicle. For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.

For lighting you can use a simple magnetic kit, # RM-2120. Or for a more permanent solution you can use # RM-154. In either case it looks like you have to pull fuses to flat tow the vehicle. Check the owners manual to confirm. To make this process as easy as flipping a switch you can use fuse bypasses # RM-76517 and # RM76514.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the best use is the Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Be sure to consult your owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.

The hitch you referenced is a genuine GM part so we wouldn't carry it. But we do have hitches for the 2015 Chevy Traverse and much lower prices than the dealer parts. The most popular option is # 75528. This is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver rated for 750 pounds tongue weight and 5000 pound gross trailer weight. I have linked a video showing installation for you.

If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included to the right that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

And to add trailer wiring you can use # C56181 to add a 4-Way flat trailer connector to the back of the vehicle to tow a trailer.
