Troubleshooting a Camper Trailer that Sways and Bounces above 60 MPH
Question:
I have a pull camper that is about 2500 lbs. its actually built on a trailer rated for 3500 lbs and Im guessing the tongue weight is rated for between 300 and 400 lbs. I have a class II 2inch hitch. the camper sways/wobbles once I hit 60 mph so Im looking at weight distribution and sway control. Do I need to get a WDH that is the same weight rating or does it matter if I get one rated higher? Im also hoping it helps with the bouncing. The trailer tongue is lower when level than my hitch. But Im on a steep driveway incline and I can only get so much of a hitch to get closer to level. I end up bottoming out with an 11inch . Hoping you can help. Ive purchased a few items from your site and it seems to have some good info and good pricing.

What's going to help the most for the sway and bouncing you are experiencing is to have the trailer sitting as level as possible while it is being towed and having as much of the weight of the cargo in your trailer moved to the front of the trailer as possible. Check out the FAQ article I attached on picking out a ball mount for the amount of rise/drop that is needed.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.
Ideally you want to pick out a system that the tongue weight of your trailer falls right into the middle of. I also attached an FAQ on weight distribution systems for you to check out.
