Does a Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller Have to be Permanently Installed to Work Properly

Question:

I tow infrequently and was wondering if I can just sit the controller in my console on my 2010 GMC Sierra as long as it is facing direction of travel or does it have to be mounted. Please let me know. Thanks.

You have to mount the P3 Brake Controller part # 90195 for it to work properly. Since this controller is inertia activated you wouldn't want it to accidentally fall or move while braking due to it not be mounted properly. Especially in an emergency situation.

What you could do is use the included bracket that allows the controller to easily be removed and reinstalled. The bracket is included but the replacement part number is # TK5906.
