Gauge Wire Recommendation for Installing Curt Discovery Brake Controller
Question:
I just purchased and received today a Curt Discovery Brake Controller. It is good for 8 brakes, but I will never control over 2 axle 4 brakes. It shows to use #10 wire. My question is can I use #12 on a 20 Amp Breaker since I have only 4 brakes to control. Thank You

Expert Reply:
Curt does recommend that you use 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 sold by the foot to install the Curt Discovery # C84VV, but the common recommendation for installing brake controllers is to use 12 gauge or larger wire. If you use 12 gauge wire you should be just fine, especially since you will only be activating 4 brake assemblies.
