An example of sag on a 's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

2020 Jeep Wrangler

Disappointed. Not in the quality of Timbren's, but in fitment with this particular vehicle. As you can see in the attached picture, there is a 2" space between the Timbren's and the point of contact. 2" is way too much to have to sag or drop in order to even begin to have an opportunity to function. I want it to be known that I am a big fan and buyer of Timbren's, and even have them front and rear on my class c motorhome. In my opinion, a Timbren should only have a 1/2" to maximum of 1" space before coming into contact. Also because of the design, there is no option of being able to use 1/2" or 1" spacers readily available here on etrailer, which I have used with other Timbren vehicle applications. As far as installation, they were the easiest Timbren's I have ever installed. The existing bump stops came out by hand and without using tools. The new Timbren's were pushed into place by jacking up the back of the vehicle and putting a 3" block of wood in between the Timbren and the axle and then lowering the jack and in doing so, pushing the Timbren into place. 10 minute job! Now all I have to do is to figure out a way to design a 1" or 1 1/2" block or spacer to close the gap between the Timbren and point of contact. If I come up with a solution, I will update this review to help out other Jeep owners with this issue.

Used on a Wrangler to tow a Humvee trailer (1101) in conjunction with Uncle Emu rear springs, and had no problems. The install was a little problematic, removed the tires for access to area, and ended up twisting them in place.

by:

These bump stops were shockingly easy to install and they made a huge difference towing my little travel trailer. Finding a 2x4 the right height to press the chock into the receiver cup took the most time. The stock Jeep bump stops we’re easy to pry out.

I know it will be lovely when loaded or the trailer on. However,it rides like a wagon empty with brand new premium shocks and struts empty. Thud thud thud. You really cannot feel the shocks or suspension. Found exact same item plentiful for 60 bucks on eBay after I bought these for 250. I may cut these in half or put air bag on. I do not like the ride empty. No hard feelings. It is a good product maybe just not for me.

by:

About a 1/2 inch difference in gap at the bump stop perch but still within parameters. Truck sits perfect with trailer attached. Haven’t towed yet. After towing if they perform like they should will upgrade to a 5 star. Easy to install, definitely needed 2x4 and jack. 2011 Silverado ext cab with 30 ft Genisis 5th wheel.

by:

Was able to install these with a 15mm flex head ratchet wrench and lifted the rear of the truck to make it easier. 30 minutes to take off 4 nuts and put em back on. 2 minutes assembling the timbrens with the added spacer. I have a f350 with a salter and plow. Loaded with salt the lights shoot up and in the snow ?? it’s like hitting hyper drive and you’re blinded. These helped big time. Very happy so far.

by:

Haven’t had it on long, but so far so good. 1999 F350 dually. Bolted up nicely. Total job took 10 minutes. Have hauled two gooseneck loads of hay and truck drives SO much better. Nice and level. Money well spent so far.

by:

The pro: The longer, heavier bump stops worked great when hauling my mustang home from Chicago. The truck stayed level and handled great.
The con: I had to remove the bump stops for everyday use. They limited my suspension travel causing a stiffer ride.

by:

I am so glad I bought these for my truck. I was able to install them myself using a jack and jackstands. The ride is bit rougher now; but the suspension is totally awesome compared to before. I am able to haul a bit more weight when needed.

by:

very good product ,received just in time and fit perfectly on my GMC savana 2000 .Be sure to clean the two receptacle thats help.
très bon produit , reçu dans les délais et s'ajuste parfaitement . Assurez-vous de nettoyer le receptacle cela facilite l'installation.

The timbrens actually did what they were suppose to do. However, once I starter driving out west I notice the timbrens were riding on the axle which cause the speedometer to jump around depending on the road. I would recommend them if you are hauling or towing a camper or RV. I was going to contact etrailer about maybe removing a spacer for one set however the other set came as one unit. The bottom line is the Timbrens does stabilize your load for safe travels. I will be contacting etrailer soon to assist in correcting the problem...Road trip from Idaho,Colorado,Wyoming, and Utah were beautiful... Thank you etrailer

by:

Definitely a must have when towing..stiff without a load but night and day difference while towing my travel trailer, better traction, steering and braking. Easy quick install..only issue I had was with the long bolts they sent with the spacer kit (optional for lift) the bolt diameter was too wide to fit through the holes on the bracket..but a trip to the local hardware store took care of that.

by:

Pros: Cheaper and easier to install than airbags, do the job when load is enough to compress the shock, with added weight or towing, then it stiffens the rear very nicely.
Cons: Doesn't do anything until there is 2-3cm of compressed shock. It sits above the contact point, doesn't touch. Under normal driving, there is no benefit/improved stiffness/anti sway in rear or a leveling of the factory rear sag in a 2022 or newer Toyota Tundra.
If had it to do over, would have put some kind of spacer in between product and upper included bracket, the supplied bolt is long enough to accommodate, to eliminate the gap, and lift the rear 1-2 cm. Should do it anyway, maybe when swapping to summer wheels next month.

by:

I’d seen similar products rated in the 4,000 lb ratings but I went with these. I’m not a mechanic but I removed the factory bump stops and installed both these in 30 minutes or less. I used my rolling jack and lifted from the drop hitch and easily removed the old ones and soapy water and 1/4 twist and these were on. Placed a block of wood in the space between these coils and lowered the jacks then pressed it with my tractor to confirm full engagement. I carry a lot of tools on a 2020 Chevy 2500 I do feel a bit of butt bounce on large bumps but other than that I’m very pleased.

by:

The order with Will at etrailer was great. He was very helpful and knowledgeable, Installation was not easy but not too bad, The hardest part was removing the factory pieces I removed them from below which was a blind nut removal operation. This is on a 2017 Mercedes Sprinter motorhome. After removal of the factory pieces I discovered that access is much easier on top between the tire and the mud flap, I turned the front wheels inward and they didn't have to be removed. The front of the motorhome had to be raised quite a bit to get the Timbren piece jnserted. Also I learned to tighten the bolt and nut in the Timbren bumper as much as possible before installation because there is no access to the bolt head when tightening the top nut to keep the bolt from turning, preventing tightening the nut.

by:

First off the product was beat up with paint/power coating missing in several places on both. I was putting on a brand new truck with less than 800 miles on it so I elected to touch up before install. I’ve hear a lot about Timbren but never had them. I had airbags on my F350 but when I switched to a new Tundra I went with Timbrens. I’m a bit disappointed in the ride. Feels like I can feel a “bump” in the truck from the rubber pick hitting the axle when I go on a bumpy road. Thinking I should have went with airbags. As far as having a load on the truck and helping with the squat, they do as they are advertised.

  • Correct Airbags for a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited With Lift
I do have an option for you but airbags won't be one if the lift uses aftermarket coil springs. The only option for a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited lifted would be the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TJRJK which will require spacers equal to the lift, part # A25723-90AH00.

  • How to Determine Timbren Helper Spring Fit for 2017 Jeep Wrangler JK With 3 inch Lift
Because the # TJRJK is a friction fit into the factory cup where the bump stop fits, a spacer wouldn't work.. If you can provide me a measurement, they might have a fit. They'll need the height difference between the underside of the frame and the top of the rear axle while the vehicle is sitting on the ground. If you can reply with that information, I can check back with Timbren to see if they have a solution for you.

  • Will Coil Spring Air Bags Work On a Lifted 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
In order to help provide rear end support on a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited while towing you have a few options. That said, these options are all designed for the factory suspension. Therefore, if you have aftermarket coil springs there is no way for us to confirm fit for a set of air bags which install inside the coil springs. The only option we have to provide support is the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TJRJK because you can add multiples of the Timbren Spacers...

  • Could Curt Triflex Replace Curt Venturer In 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Yes a proportional Curt controller like the part # C24VV could easily replace a # C74VV. It would be just a matter of unplugging the old controller and plugging in the new one. For suspension enhancement I would go with the Timbren kit part # TJRJK instead of an air bag kit because maintaining air pressure in bags can be a bit of a hassle and the Timbrens get installed and you never have to think about them again.

It sounds like you already have the Timbren Front or Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TJFTJ, installed on the front axle of your 2013 Jeep Wrangler. This installs within the springs you already have. However, the Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TJRJK, is only for the rear. It also replaces the bump stops alongside the springs on the rear, not within them. This is the one for your rear since you already have the others on the front. • Timbren Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2017 Jeep Wrangler with 2 inch Lift
The Timbren kit part # TJRJK that you referenced is the correct kit for your 2017 Jeep Wrangler, but since you have a 2 inch lift you'll also need to use spacers to take up the additional space created by the lift. For that you'd want the # A25723-90AH00 for each inch of lift. So you'd need a quantity of 4 since you have 2 inches of lift per side of vehicle.
